St. Catherine University has established a new faculty of Health and Welfare Human Services. Opening in April, 2008, the new faculty will expand the traditional concept of social work and social welfare management to human services in health and well-being that focus on providing for ours and others?total welfare.
"Respect for human rights and self-actualization for all to achieve a high level of mental, physical and social well-being."
We believe that this can be achieved through training and exercise that can help make a healthy life of well-being and fulfillment possible. Our goal is to nurture and educate those who are essential to fulfill the management and administration needs that are related to health and sports for health, social work, care work, and personal health services.
Department of Social Work
Studies cover the entire range from children to the aged. Students learn to become specialists in making the benefits of social work available to all in order to build a society in which people can live each day in happiness.
Social Work Major
The social work major is divided into three courses: psychiatric social work, mental health social work, and health and welfare social work.
Students are trained to be specialists who can provide assistance to those who have physical or mental disabilities or those who face various obstacles in their lives. Further, students develop the ability and knowledge to provide this support while maintaining a vision of the community in which they serve.
Care Work Major
With the advancement of the aged society in Japan, it is necessary to have specialists who are capable to responding to their needs. While students learn the skills for caring for the aged they are also developing medical and nursing care skills within the framework of a strong knowledge of welfare.
Department of Health and Social Welfare Management
St. Catherine University has been building upon the foundations of educational research on services and welfare. We included education in social work related policies and management skills, and, now, we are expanding into services and sports for health. Our goal is to promote the growth and development of those who can work in health and welfare management.
Social Welfare Management Major
The social welfare management major continues from learning the skills necessary for direct services to those in need of welfare-related assistance to focusing more intensively on the policies and systems necessary for management and administration of welfare service facilities. In addition, with the growth of the aging population in Japan, our goal is to develop those who can approach the work of welfare-related businesses, hospitality services, and senior citizen focused activities with a welfare-focused mindset.
Health and Sports Management Major
In this major, the students learn techniques and practices necessary to maintain and promote for health, sports, and exercise that benefit individual and social well-being. It is important to learn the skills needed to develop mental and physical health promotion programs that can be adapted to a person? age and health status. In order to reduce the need for care and prevent lifestyle-related illnesses, our goal is to educate those who have knowledge of exercise and health (including support for nutrition and personal needs) to be able to prescribe precise services that promote a high level of health.
